Encrypt WordPress content.
Updated March 29, 2026 (version 1.5.2) | How to install or update safely
Encrypt WordPress content using the Classic or Gutenberg editors. You can highlight and encrypt, encrypt with a block, or just encrypt an entire Classic Editor post.
Here’s how it works
After installing and activating, go to a post. If you are using the latest Gutenberg style editor then the best way to encrypt is by searching for the encryption block. However, you can instead highlight a sentence or paragraph and press the Encrypt button. If you use the block, you’ll type out content, and then click on the lock icon in that block’s pop up menu. Type in a passphrase and you’re good to go.
Using the block is the safest method because it will stop you from accidentally saving non-encrypted text.
Watching the following video may help to make things clear as well. Since making the video the encrypt/decrypt buttons have moved from the bottom right into a meta box below the editor. Still, the video may be helpful.
Make sure you type the passphrase carefully and that you never forget it, or your content will be encrypted forever.
There’s no easy way to get content back without the passphrase. Therefore, use at your own risk!!
The plugin doesn’t add a bunch of unnecessary code that slows down your website. Instead, it uses WordPress’s default styling and built-in functionality.
Keep your secrets, secret.
