After using all kinds of WordPress themes since 2005, I created and maintain a modern, web app style theme called Peak.
I now realize that there are many themes out there with this name, but I’ll stick with the name anyway. 🤷♂️ Mainly because the name fits my goal for this premium theme which is: To maintain the best, feature rich theme for people who want the left vertical icon menu style experience, and a rich commenting experience.
Peak is ultra responsive and its left nav menu and right sidebar move out of the way on small screens. You can then reveal the left nav menu with a hamburger button, and reveal the right sidebar by swiping/pulling on a tab (or just tap the tab).
The left nav menu is customizable via the WordPress Customizer screen. You may use default icons or font awesome icons. You may also rearrange icons and make sure that the left menu perfectly fits your site.
The right sidebar is 100% customizable because you simply use WordPress’ built in widgets.
Peak comes with automatic dark and light modes or you may toggle them.
Another way this theme is different from many free and premium themes is the commenting experience.
When you are on a single post page, in the left nav menu, a comments icon appears with the number of comments for that page. When you tap that icon or a comments button at the bottom of an article, a comments drawer appears from the bottom.
Users may edit or delete their own comments, and/or tap on “Manage Comments” to manage all of their comments throughout the site.
My roadmap for this theme includes adding comment moderation settings so that you can turn off comment editing and/or deleting if you’d like. As of writing this post, you cannot disable this. However, my personal view is that you should always let users remove their own content if they’d like.
It’s rare to find a theme with sleek comment editing built-in. But, you just found it!
Currently the cost is a ONE TIME fee of $99.00. Admittedly I struggled with setting the price because as I was getting started in the world of WordPress I needed free or very cheap themes. But first, I think $99.00 to many is somewhat cheap these days. Also, I must stress again that it is a one-time payment. You get all future updates for free. You also get ongoing basic support. Which means if the theme’s code has an error, I address it as soon as I can. Or, if there are basic questions, I help as soon as I can. Support does not include customization or any major fixes caused by a plugin.
Finally, I cannot offer refunds simply because then someone could obtain my code, ask for a refund, and now they have a free theme. Which they could either use as-is or “borrow” parts of the code for their own premium theme. I know this will happen regardless, but at least I secure a fair fee for any code they steal. 🤓
Peak is great for any type of website or blog. It may really shine though if you are starting a community, social network, or SaaS product thanks to the app like design.
